It was the first gun in the world to combine a breech-loading mechanism with an effective recoil system.
This quick-firing weapon made every other artillery piece obsolete. Despite being over forty years old, the soixante quinze – the ‘seventy five’– is still one of the most rapid-firing artillery pieces in existence.
