SU 57 Assault Gun
(SU103)
The SU 57 Assault gun was the combination of the US M3 Halftrack and the M1 57mm gun. The Soviet Union received 650 lend-lease vehicles from the USA. It was popular due to familiarity with the same gun from their Valentine tanks. Four SU Brigades were equipped with the SU 57: the 14th, 16th, 19th and 22nd SU Brigades. These were given SU 57 vehicles in February 1944 and all saw action in the Ukraine starting in mid-1944. They took part at the liberation of Romania in August 1944.
