Even in this modern, mechanised war, the infantry remain the backbone of the army—they don’t win battles on their own, but no war is won without them. The US ‘doughboys’ are not yet battle-hardened, but they are no slouches. Their lack of experience is partly overcome by their long and rigorous training.
The Rifle Company
Commanders
Rifle Company HQ teams are an officer on a small base with an NCO and a Radioman (or Rifleman). The team faces the long edge.
Unit Leaders
Rifle Platoon Unit Leader teams are an officer on a small base with an NCO and a rifleman. The team faces the long edge.
M1 Bazooka
Base Bazooka teams on a small base with a Bazooka Gunner and Rifleman loader. The team faces the long edge.
M1919 LMG team
Base M1919 LMG teams on medium base facing the long edge. These teams have the gunner and his weapon along with two assistant gunners or loaders/riflemen.
M1 Garand teams
Base M1 Garand teams on a medium base. Teams combine an NCO and three riflemen armed with M1 Garand rifles, or four riflemen. For the Rifle Platoon, one out of every three teams should replace a rifleman with a gunner armed with a BAR. The team faces the long edge.
