While Panzergrenadiers undertake most mobile operations, the Grenadiers usually defend along the remainder of the front line. Unlike the motorised Panzergrenadiers, the Grenadiers have almost no motor transport and often insufficient horses to move all of their weapons at the same time.

With a lack of mobility, a defensive plan must be carefully formulated. Use of machine-guns supported by mortars and artillery to break up an enemy attack is a must.
The Grenadiers can then absorb the attack and counter-attack to regain any lost position and rout the enemy from the battlefield.
