Holy Roman Empire: Imperial Cuirassiers
(BFS-HRE-11)
Cuirassiers were the basic cavalry of the Imperial army during the Thirty Years' War and after its conclusion, 9 such regiments were left in service. In theory, Imperial cuirassiers should have been equipped with helmets, breastplates and backplates. In practice, however, many soldiers abandoned their helmets and replaced them with hats. Instead of a breast and back plates, cuirassiers often had only a leather buff-coat. They were armed with a backsword and a pair of pistols. Cuirassiers were able to shoot at their enemies Rusing the caracole, but they were mainly designated for close combat, just like the Swedish or Brandenburg reiters.
