The BTR-50 (Bronetransporter 1950, or armoured transporter 1950) is a tracked amphibious armoured personnel carrier (APC) based on the PT-76 light tank chassis. It weighs 15 tons and is diesel engine powered tracked vehicle with two crew and space for up to 20 passengers. It usually mounts a 7.62mm machine-gun. The BTR-50 entered service in 1954 and until 1966 was the Soviet army’s main infantry fighting vehicle. BTR-50 APCs transport their infantry into battle, then pro-vide supporting fire with their machine-guns
