The J-class comprised 8 destroyers each with a name starting with the letter J (HMS Jackal, Jaguar, Janus, Javelin, Jersey, Jervis, Juno and Jupiter). J-class destroyers reversed the trend of the Tribal-class, emphasising torpedoes over guns.
