From a young age, Lyudmila Pavlichenko was determined to show just how capable women can be, finding one of her earliest routes to proving herself through sport and shooting (skills that would later serve her well in the Red Army's 25th Rifle Division, where she become one of 2,000 female snipers)
After a decorated military career, following recovery from a mortar shell injury, she became known as the most deadly sniper in the Russian army and was turned to aiding relationships and seeking additional support in allied countries.
However, many magazines initially greeted the accomplished veteran with the title “Girl Sniper,” and observations regarding her make-up (or lack thereof) and that her uniform lacked style.
With time and perseverance, Lyudmila's stories and rallies in front of thousands of citizens gradually drove home the point that women were not only capable but essential to the fight, helping shift perspectives and attitudes for the better.
