The Czech-designed AH-IV tankette, known in Romania as the R-1, was used by the Romanians in actions from Operation Barbarossa to the Vienna Offensive. It only had a two-man crew: a driver and a gunner.
The R-1 was armed with a fixed ZB vz.26 light machine gun mounted to the right of the driver, and turret-mounted ZB vz.37 heavy machine gun. It was very lightly protected, with armour ranging between 6-12mm (¼-½”). The suspension was a essentially a smaller version of that of the
Panzer 38(t). The R-1 had a top speed on the road of 45km (28 miles) per hour.
