Deli ("the mad ones") is a Turkish light cavalry formation of Bosnian and Albanian origin. The Deli were a kind of an elite, closed religious sect or warrior brotherhood. They were clad in hides of predators and attached bird feathers to their hats. They widely resorted to self-mutilation and according to some historians they intoxicated themselves before the battle. The Deli were grouped in small, elite units of pashas' and vizers' guards.
