Imperial High Command
The operations of the Imperial army were coordinated by the Hofkriegsrat (Court War Council), a presidium advisory body assisting the emperor. Corps and field divisions were led by Field Marshals and Generals.Colonel-inhabers commanded regiments, although frequently they were commanders in name only and actual command was held by Lieutenant-colonels or majors. Regiments were often divided into two smaller units, for example for garrison duties and these detached units were commanded by Majors or Captains.
